You could
highlight what you have learnt from the lecture/readings/screenings; present
your own ideas, and throw questions. You don’t have to exhaust every aspect of
the chosen topic, try to pin down to certain film work/genre, certain
filmmaker, certain keywords (national cinema, trauma. flaneur, ruins etc.).
Make sure prepare 2-3 questions at the end of your presentation too.
Preferably you
could relate your presentation to your final paper. Consider the presentation a
combination of a reading journal and textual analysis of films (use the films
as examples to support or to problematize the ideas presented in the readings).
You could use films from outside of the syllabus, but it would be great to
focus on these titles
Nanook of the North, Dir. Robert Flaherty, 1922
Waltz with Bashir, Dir. Ali Folman, 2008
Swallowtail Butterfly, Dir. Iwai
Shunji, 1996
Ghost in the Shell, Dir. Oshii Mamoru, 1995
Hiroshima Mon Amour, Dir. Alain Resnais, 1959
Please write me if you have any question. The final paper
would be due on Feb 1st. Details would be given on Jan 22nd.
