format free; use Oxford
University Press (HUMSOC) for annotations

WEEK 6 *MAY 24TH NEW CHINESE CINEMA IN THE 1980S: THE FIFTH GENERATION

Dir.
Chen Kaige. 陳凱歌
&
Red Sorghum (红⾼粱)
Dir.
Zhang Yimou/張藝謀,
1987
NOTE: Dear all, there is a small change of plan. I have added another film to the list, so you can choose to watch any one out of the two; for sure it would be even better if you could watch both titles.
We will mainly talk about Red Sorghum in class. If you cannot find the film, do write to Ma Ran.
